Politicians avoid jail - Despite witnesses

Published 20 february by Lucas Dupont

LERVILE. After an intense week of accusations, the top officials of the LUP who were suspected of being responsible for the increased violence during the so-called “sweeps,” organized since the party’s “Clean Streets” initiative was launched at the beginning of the month, have now been released.

Among those accused was the now-resigned party leader Ian Wilkins, who was alleged to have encouraged marching citizens to use violence and to have personally contributed to a growing sense of insecurity in the city.

Liam Miller, spokesperson for the youth group Lerville Youth, states openly that they witnessed an incident in which Wilkins himself is said to have attacked an elderly man sleeping on a bench. According to Miller, Wilkins “repeatedly attacked him with an empty bottle in an attempt to drive him away,” an act that Miller claims was nearly applauded by Wilkins’ followers.

Despite the testimonies, Wilkins and the other accused were released yesterday. They have not yet commented on the incident. The Calipost is currently unable to confirm whether the incident is connected to Wilkins’ resignation as party leader of the LUP.

Wilkins’ successor, Hendrick Hues, commented on the matter at a press conference today:

“It’s unfortunate that things have turned out this way. We ourselves do not know exactly what happened, but I would be shocked if Wilkins had done something like that. I believe this is more likely an exaggerated story from someone who witnessed an ordinary altercation and wanted to smear our party.”

R.I.P :/ Maybe you should be careful what you write - it looks like you're the ones encouraging violence here and not LUP.

The man who got beat up is named Christian and often sits down by Millen's Square - if you see him again then ask him what he saw and buy him something to eat!! #LY2005

LERVILLE. How should one best describe local politics in the hands of the LUP? Should I mention how they hunt young people with fines and police patrols? How they casually forget that homeless people sleep on the streets...
